Grand Trunk Warehouse Exterior Shot

I don't have much of a history for the Grand Trunk.  It's located on Detroit's East Side and served as a warehouse.  It closed in 2001 & has sat derelict ever since.  It used to be harder to get into; but then the building had a fire & now there are entrances that you could drive a small car into.

The first floor featured a large loading area where trains could drive right into the factory & also some small offices. The offices had plenty of unopened mail...

Wandering back into the warehouse we found a roll of stickers on the ground.  It took a lot of convincing for me to get 21 & 23 to leave the stickers there for others to enjoy.

We did take a few, but not the entire roll.

There were also plenty of tags for the cold storage meat that was present.

These stickers lost their stick.

21 & 23 had plenty of fun on the Styrofoam floor.

I can't remember the number of floors that the Grand Trunk was; but anyway, about 1/2 were standard warehouse floors; then about 1/2 were cold storage floors.

Cold storage meaning that the food items left behind; had been rotting for 6 years in conditions that they were not meant to be in.

The pizza pockets didn't handle the heat well.

The coconut oil was long gone though.

The room with the cooling unit was quite impressive though.

This was the best picture I could get though because of space restrictions.

When I heard about this place; I though there would be cow slabs hanging like the one that Sly Stallone is punching in Rocky.  So we went into the stairwell and tried to find the worst smelling floor.  I don't think 23 was enjoying himself.

I really couldn't care less about smells; I'm not sensitive at all. It was disgusting & smelt like hockey equipment, don't get me wrong; I can just mind-over-matter it though.

The only thing we found was this decaying seafood though.

The roof was welcomed with open arms.  It was really nice to get some fresh air.

The view wasn't half bad either.

21 & 23 were committed to climbing this water tower.

I wonder what people driving by on I-94 were thinking.

21 didn't even get to that rectangle middle piece.

This is the height that 23 reached.  Doing something like this probably makes you appreciate the risk some graffiti artists will take.

Speaking of graffiti artists.  MONEY, THOR & PIANO all had rolled their tags on the side of the building by hanging over the side and using stick rollers.

I was trying to depict this; but totally had a stupid moment and only took a picture of the O in the Grand Trunk WarehOuse painted sign.

Wow.

22's "what the hell are you doing" expression is priceless.

So after enjoying the roof for about a 1/2 of an hour; we trudged back down the stairs as it was getting dark.  We went all the way down to check out the basement; but it was highly flooded.  I tested the ice and it wasn't safe in any manner. I broke through and it was only about 5cm thick.

So much for exploring the basement.

The Grand Trunk is a "go once & you're good" kind of place.  You're kind of curious about how bad the smell will be & you find out.  Other than that; I'd probably only head back to relax on that roof in the summer - even though I have others that I favor more & the others that I favor more are in better neighborhoods.
