Patterson Lake Products in Pinckney, Michigan. Built in the late 1960s and closed in 1988; the factory manufactured bolts & screens.

Its 78 acre site has sat dead ever since.

My friend & I were a little nervous about this one. We're both very used to exploring in Detroit; where you don't have to be smooth or worried about authority.

We threw caution to the wind and decided to drive out to Pinckney (near Ann Arbor) after seeing this place online; all the while knowing that maybe we would get shut out.  This was small town Michigan & people have a lot of time on their hands.  We thought that maybe residents would be noisy or the building would be too well sealed.

Neither was true.  I was amazed at how wide open this building was; I couldn't imagine having a location like this in my small town; there would be quite a lot of ramp stunts and drinking going down.

It was a perfect day for going in buildings.

My favorite time of the year personally; nice fluffy snow outside as well as coming through the holes in the roof.

So you're going to get a heavy dose of these pictures.

At the end of the day; we discussed what we thought the building was out of 10; and I gave it quite a high score because I loved the snow falling through the roof holes so much.

There was some actual exploring to do; but not that much.

19 years of abandonment will take its toll on a building.

The excitement wasn't that high though; not that much stuff left behind.

There was some city storage space...

...and whatever this thing is...

...and some signage about the factory.

This was a surprise; machinery with copper in it.  This would be long gone in Detroit.

The office space looked pretty rough.  All of the roof tiles had collapsed and much of the insulation was hanging down.

We looked around for a minute; but there was very little stuff left behind.

We also found some strange water filtration room complete with water filters.

The loading dock was wide open.

It's pretty tough to get into a building with 7 entrances.

So wide open that animal tracks were found throughout.

(I'm sure a raccoon could get into any building; but there were tracks all over the factory.)

Snowy interiors make for pictures; not stories

As previously stated, Patterson Lake Products has sat abandoned for 19 years; but won't reach its 20th anniversary.  The village of Pinckney took over the property in the 90s on overdue taxes & has tried to redevelop the site, but couldn't due to contamination.

That was until recently; when the village received a grant of $585 000 to tear down the building and clean the contamination created by oil & other fluids.

We had to see it before it was gone.
