08/10/05 - The Huntington Woods Skatepark

I was reading about this cement skatepark in Detroit around 11 mile & decided to check it out.  The only thing was the worry if bikes were allowed or not...but who cares, lets go see...after all it's only 11 mile.

We showed up to this sign...4th sentence, "The use of bicycles will ruin your skate park and may result in its closure."  That's scare tactics if I've ever seen it; lets see, Forest Glade is rode more by bikers than skaters & after 6 years it's still the same as when it started.  Add to the fact of that 'bikes may result in it's closure'; give me a break, what a bunch of bs to give skaters motivation to bitch at bikers.

\

After that sign we were enamored with this futuristic playground...can you tell that this was a rich suburb of Detroit?

Also, what the hell is Donnie sitting on, what's the meaning of those chairs?  I don't know how someone still has a job when they replaced the merry-go-round with this monstrosity.

\

On the other side of the 'futuristic playground', was another chair; this time facing some curved plastic thing with balls glued on it.

\

One thing we were impressed with was these plastic pieces so that kids don't get there fingers stuck in the chain holes.

\

Anyway, enough of the futuristic playground; we head over to the skatepark to check it out & get a feeling for the vibe to see if we can bike.

\

On the way we see an actual useful rule; just stated in a weird manner.

\

So anyway, all but 1 skater left suddenly & some kids on bikes showed up in a mere coincidence.  So Donnie & I got out & rode the park for an hour or so.  I would give the park a 7 & Donnie said he'd give it a 2.

\

We didn't do anything worthy of taking a picture so I'm just going to put this one of Donnie riding out of the bowl so that people see that bikes were riding there precious skatepark.

\

Donnie did do the rail at the Royal Oak library though.

For those of you sick of yuppee douchebags in downtown Windsor...you should head to Royal Oak; wow was that place full of pretentious blowhards.

\

Coming through Detroit on the way home we saw the movie set at the old train station by the bridge.  We yelled "where's Wayne Brady?" & headed across the bridge.
