09/20/05 - The Abandoned Packard Plant in Detroit

Update: The Fisher Body Plant 21.

If you drive up I-75 North for about 4-5 minutes you will see a white run down factory.  That is the Fisher Body Plant & after too much talk of going there went down & internet browsing, this place needed to be visited; so come Tuesday, Donnie & I headed over there.

This is what you can see from I-75 of the factory...take a peek next time you're going to Great Lakes Crossing.

We walked into the factory straight from the street & this is what the first floor looked like when we entered.

Part of the second floor fell down in this one spot & I thought it was quite a scene.  The floors looked like concrete & this place reminded me of Ford's so I wasn't really that worried about this happening again.

One of the rooms on the ground level near the courtyard had large vats with Beans & Piano pieces.

If you look to the right in the aforementioned picture, this is that said courtyard.

The Ladies Room.

Olde English cans in one of the rooms.  Too bad they weren't ours...

...then again who drinks Olde English in cans?

The second floor was a lot like the first.

The collapsed elevator.

Said elevator shaft once we got to some higher floors.

The floor we were on (4th?) had more junk than the first floor.  Mostly upturned bricks & left over junk that no one could possibly use.

We found the locker rooms & some of them had fell over.

One of the old offices with windows.  It was interesting because there was the main floor then you'd reach the end where the rooms would be wallpapered & better looking; obviously the offices.

Looking through a broken window pane you can see the Renaissance Centre.

The floors started to blend into each other & we got anxious to reach to roof.

We were greeted with more hot MONEY pieces.

Also looking out we saw this crazy TRDL on the back of this billboard.

Over where you could see that TRTL billboard you could see the highways moving past in their network.

Thought this was funny.

Looking back from the one end of the rooftop.

An overview of the city from the rooftop.

We spotted these people originally on the 3rd floor & they told us that the roof is the place to be with all the spots you can climb & the highways that look like arteries.

Also, I was sort of nervous in this building (it was only my 2nd abandoned building in Detroit) until I saw these people.  I figure if two 100lb girls, an emo'd out guy & one normal guy are fine with cases of camera equipment, then we should be alright.

Four people clearly taking pictures for MySpace.

Looking back at the Wayne State area.

The water tower was a necessity to climb as you can see it from the highway & it gives some good views...getting up next to it is easy, but climbing on top is crazy as you can see by this ladder.  We just sat up there for a bit.

We took a different staircase off the roof because it was getting dark.  When headed down the staircase I saw this alligator & thought it was funny.

The stairs down.

A view from the courtyard.

Another.

We parked by this hydrant on our way in & Donnie spotted the spout of water into the cup...just thought it was weird.
