01/13/07 - Chi-Town for Playoff Football Last year we went to Chicago to get tickets and go watch the Bears game. We didn't end up getting tickets, but had such a good time that we decided to head back this year for their match up versus the Seahawks of Seattle.
The crew included Clarkson & Roachy driving in Clarkson's Jetta. Andy Ion, Warriner & I drove in his Warriner's Sunbird. We stopped in Detroit at a liquor mart to buy some supplies. I brought Warriner & Andy to a fairly safe liquor mart; but Andy was still nervous as he just bought whatever whiskey the guy handed him. Myself, I bought the finest Vodka that New Jersey has to offer.
We went on driving. Andy & I resisted the urge to drink for quite a while; after all, it was only 1pm when we left & we had a long day ahead of us. That being said, we began drinking around 4 - 4:30pm. The ride was just getting too long, so I decided to take down some straight vodka & Andy took down some straight whiskey. We got a little buzz and wanted some food. So we stopped in Anywhere, Michigan for some Burger King & McDonald's. I had a BK Big Fish & it was absolutely terrible. Andy & I, being quite full, dozed off as Warriner drove the rest of the way to Chicago. I missed Gary, Indiana & was not impressed. I note to myself that I will see it on the way back.
Clarkson & Roach had left at 7am and got to Chicago long before us. They got the hotel & took care of accommodations. We spent the good amount of the Saints / Eagles game in the hotel getting ready and pre-gaming; pre-gaming with Welch's & Five O'Clock Vodka in fact. And yes, I know that blue collars & red shirts don't match; but we were going to a dark bar and the flash illuminated the shirt a lot more than actuality.
Clarkson was quite riled up before we even left.
In reality, everyone was pretty riled up. We were watching Latin Deal or No Deal and drinking; can't do much more than that. "Durocher, I think you were the most sober person last night; that doesn't happen very often"
Check the guy sporting his Darius Kasparaitis Penguins Jersey at the bar.
Clarkson & Andy Ion.
One of us ended up getting a little too waxed and got thrown out of John Barleycorn's. One of us ended up walking next door and getting sick in some housing unit corridor. That one of us didn't want to be revealed; so we'll leave it at that.
"Your friend, he not puke! Your friend, he not puke!" I'm pretty sure our cabbie didn't believe us when we told him that our friend was fine.
So we put our one friend to bed and Roachy & I headed back out on the town. It was 1am, but since both of us weren't tired; we wanted to do something else. We entered the elevator and found a cute girl & with quite large breasts inside. She told us about some bar that she was going to and that we should go...
...somehow we got turned around and ended up at some all-night diner with dollar Coney dogs. Roach didn't care because of Michelle & I didn't really care because I was eating dollar Coney dogs. Andy & Warriner spent the rest of the night in the district around Barleycorn's trying hard as hell after watching Latin Deal or No Deal. 2 funny instances I can remember: Girl (talking to Andy) - "Ya, I'm in law school right now and I'll have my PHD in one more year. So what do you do?" & Warriner - "Andy, you're the worst wingman ever! I'm talking to this girl & her friend comes back and tells me that you talked about your dad losing his job for 10 minutes & then walked away!" Both came home empty handed and Warriner was last to the hotel room, resulting in him getting the floor spot.
Most people that know me know my love of Breakfast Burritos. When I had spotted "Burrito Beach" the night before; it wasn't even a question - I was getting a damn breakfast burrito. Well, I woke up too late and ended up with a Black Bean & Goat Cheese burrito; but it was good nonetheless.
We saw Clarkson wandering aimlessly and then almost get hit by that Hyundai.
We also spotted this guy urban skiing after Burrito Beach.
We headed back to John Barleycorn's that day to sit around and watch the actual football game. Clarkson decided to wander over and take a look where one of our friends had a rough night the night before.
I don't know why we go to John Barleycorn's for the actual football game. Drinks are fairly expensive and there are relatively small screens. Then again, the waitresses were distracting us all game and you can't complain about that.
After 4 Long Island Iced Teas at John Barleycorn's; it proved to be an interesting ride home. I hate driving home, so last year I got smashed to entertain Clarkson. This year it was Andy driving and I think I did my job. I thought I was acting like a herb; but they seemed to think it was funny.
